#16: I The Breather - These Are My Sins

Released on December 7th (2010) via Sumerian Records
I The Breather on Facebook

Before I start telling how awesome this album is: I asked the band and they said it doesn’t really matter to them if you write “I, The Breather” or “I The Breather”. And now: This album is awesome! I’ve been waiting for it for so long, I already knew the band when they released their first EP. These Are My Sins is worth every minute of listening, great guitar riffs and breakdown and strong lyrics make this an amazing debut album for a fresh metalcore band.

#17: Heart In Hand - Only Memories

Released on May 23rd via Siege Of Amida Records
Heart In Hand on Facebook

Just wow. This album really gives me the chills. Very emotional and intensive songs. Couldn’t even name a favorite song here, I just love them all!

#18: Gideon - Costs

Released on March 1st via Facedown Records
Gideon on Facebook

A must-have for anyone who likes hardcore! They had some pretty unknown EPs before but this one is just great and finally people start knowing these guys!

Advent Calendar 2011 - Door 06 (Stefan)

Happy St. Nicholas’ Day!! We hope everyone of you got tons of candy! Need some good music to listen to while stuffing all the sweet, tasty, unhealthy food into your mouth? Look no further, door 6 incoming!

#19: From Atlantis - Echoes & Answers

Released on November 19th via InVogue Records
From Atlantis on Facebook

A pretty fresh release, came out just a week ago. I can’t really say much about this, I just love From Atlantis! I don’t like the new recording as much as the versions of the song that were out before the release but it’s still a damn great EP!

#19 Album: Oh Sleeper - Children Of Fire

Released September 27th via Solid State
Oh, Sleeper on Facebook

This album already appeared on Stefans list and he pretty much said everything. This release features everything, good clean vocals, sick guitarwork, pumping grooves and honest and fascinating lyrics. There are energetic songs and ballads, in general this album would deserve a higher place in my list but there’s just so much great stuff left - I promise, you will see if you keep checking back!

#19 EP: Within Wolves - Within Wolves

Self-released on January 16th
Within Wolves on Facebook

Within Wolves’ EP was a piece of music that kept my thoughts warm in the bitter cold January of 2011 in Germany. This Post-Hardcore outfit shows a lot of love for small details on this debut EP and “Dampe” is still one of my favorite songs. I really, really hope to hear more from these guys in 2012!

Advent Calendar 2011 - Door 05 (Olli)

St. Nicholas is close, take this as some pre-candy!

#20 Album: Trust Company - Dreaming In Black And White

Released on March 8th via Koch Records
Trust Company on Facebook

I’ve been waiting years for a new album from Trust Company! Finally they came back together and released a new album early 2011, which was nearly as great as their previous work. This release reminded me a lot of the good old times and had to be mentioned in my top 24 releases this year.

#21 EP: The Red October - Standing By

Self-Released on June 17th
The Red October on Facebook

This EP was a real surprise. I was expecting a solid EP, but it was way better than what I had expected. Especially the clean vocals are fascinating, “Nook N’ Cranky” isn’t the only song that has an amazing refrain. Also the guitarwork is great and sounds perfectly right into place, even if the mastering isn’t the best.

Advent Calendar 2011 - Door 04 (Olli)

Another day, another door, more awesome releases you better didn’t miss this year!

#21: Tasters - Reckless Till The End

Released on September 16th via Nuclear Blast Records
Tasters on Facebook

Funny that Stefan and me both put this album on place 21! But in contrast to Stefan I was looking forward to this album for months - and it turned out awesome. The sound is a little weird but if you let the album grow on you, you’ll love the music itself! The vocals are amazing.

#21 EP: End, Ocean - Currents

Self-released on July 1st
End, Ocean on Facebook

Now this release came out of nowhere for me. I haven’t ever heard anything about this band before and someday I found this eight song release and I was blown away. The vocals, both screamed and clean, are very well done, the sound is professional and good to listen to and the instrumentalists do a great job. Make sure to check out “Currents” if you haven’t yet!

St. Nicholas is close, take this as some pre-candy!

#20: Adaliah - Rituals

Self-Released on January 1st

Adaliah on Facebook

Also on of those albums that came out of nowhere for me. Never heard of them before until they had this EP out. Total blast. Olli already said pretty much everything about it, just see door 1.

Of Whispers - Avalanche

#21: Tasters - Reckless Till The End

Released on September 16th via Nuclear Blast Records

Tasters on Facebook

For me this album came out of nowhere. I actually found them some time after it was released. But wow, it was a blast. And still is! It’s not the standard metalcore that you hear pretty often (which I still like). It is diverse and always fun to listen to, you can always find new little facets that make these songs what they are. This album is definitely worth spending some time on it!

Advent Calendar 2011 - Door 03 (Olli)

Those days go by really quick. It’ll be christmas in no time! But for now we have to be happy with door 3!

December 3rd.

#22 Album: Aegaeon - Dissension

Self-Released on August 15th
Aegaeon on Facebook

Personally, I’m not really into Deathcore. Of course there are these unique bands like Whitechapel I listen to every now and then. And you can count Aegaeon to one of those unique bands, their new album really blew me away. They are still unsigned but the album is far better than most big Deathcore releases of 2011!

#22 EP: Eyes Have Seen The Glory - Aftertaste

Self-released on April 26th
Eyes Have Seen The Glory on Facebook

Eyes Have Seen The Glory made a huge step forward with their 2011 EP so they made it into my top24 EP releases from 2011. The clean singing is very catchy and I hope to hear more from these guys next year, maybe I can add them to my album list then!

#22: The Browning - Burn This World

Released on October 4th via Earache Records

The Browning on Facebook

I’ve heard a lot of people’s opinions about this album and many think it’s bad. But I have to admit: I’ve had a hell lotta fun with this album. I like pretty much every song on it. The recording quality isn’t even the best but I just love the music. Don’t blame me!

Advent Calendar 2011 - Door 02 (Stefan)

Day 2, Door 2! Cold winter is coming in and what’s better than having a hot chocolate while listening to some damn good music? Right! Nothing. So let’s see which awesome releases are waiting behind door 2!

December 2nd.

#23: Oh, Sleeper - Children Of Fire

Released September 27th via Solid State

Oh, Sleeper on Facebook

What I like most is that Oh, Sleeper still keep their kind of unique sound. If they released a new song and I hear it without knowing it’s them I would still figure it out. And those guys really know how to use their guitars. At least for me many of those songs are catchy as hell and I have to listen again and again. If you didn’t check this album out yet you really missed something, so head over to the next store and buy it. We all know you will actually buy it, right?

#23 Album: The Soulless - Isolated

Released May 17th on Earache Records

The Soulless on Facebook

I love The Soulless’ debut album “Isolated”, especially the guitarwork is nothing but great and the rhythms are sick as well. Actually this album would be in my top 10 based on the music itself, but I didn’t like the sound / production very much, which wasn’t nearly as good as the music.

#23 EP: Makers - Ailments

Self-released on July 30th

Makers on Facebook

Makers EP “Ailments” has been quite a cool surprise this year. The band is still very young but the music is well done and more than solid - it’s nothing unique or groundbreaking, but it’s fun to listen to and the style reminds of such bands like For The Fallen Dreams. Also, the ballad “Embraced” is amazing!

Advent Calendar 2011 - Door 01 (Stefan)

So today is December 1st and we are starting our advent calendar today! Each day from now on, until Saturday, December 24th, we will show you one of our most liked releases from 2011. Since we can’t use releases from December 2011, we will add releases from December 2010. The last release shown on the 24th is the very favorite release, so every day we show a release that we liked more! I, Stefan, will show you my favorite Albums and EPs in a single list, while Olli separates them.

#24: I Am History - Visions

Released on March 15th via CI Records
I Am History on Facebook

You have no idea how hard it can be to make such a ranking. I thought it’s gonna be hard to decide what’s #1 but deciding which release is gonna be #24 was even harder. So I ended up with I Am History. I like the whole album but the constant rather slow speed made me eventually put it on #24. There isn’t much more to say here, still a very good debut release for a fresh band from Lancaster!

Stay tuned for the other 23!
